JUJU-MANIA INVADES THE SPYGLASS 23rd July 2010

The Juju Men invade the Spyglass & Kettle this Friday, 23rd July, from 9.30pm.

You have been warned !!!

MAGIC RE-INVENTED July 2010

Versatile Bournemouth function band, Magic, has re-invented itself as a 4-piece. The line-up is now bass, drums, guitar and keyboards. This band, which in some shape or form has existed since the very beginning of time, has played every imaginable type of venue and event. So, what are you waiting for? For your wedding celebration, birthday bash, mid-summer barbecue, New Year's Eve party or whatever, choose Magic the 'band for all occasions'.

HORIZONTAL RAIN 15th July 2010

The Juju Men had planned to wear gaudy, tasteless shirts bearing a close ressemblence to psychedelic parrot droppings to liven up their appearance at Poole's 'Summer Breeze' gig last Thursday night. But this was destined not to be. It was a definite anorak night for all concerned. The heavens opened up and the winds blew at gale force resulting in horizontal rain. PA columns tottered and fell to the ground. Rain persistently dripped onto drums and into vintage Vox AC30 amps. Thoughts of insurance claims were in the air, but no, this was an act of God. Nevertheless, fearless as ever, the band played on right to the bitter end. And the fabulously mixed audience of loyal locals, brave tourists and crazy eccentrics also refused to be defeated by the elements. As the Beatles would have said, You're such a lovely audience, we'd love to take you home with us ... '. So, a big thanks to all concerned, not least, 'Poole Tourism' who made the whole event possible.

JUJU MEN - LIVE AT SUMMER BREEZE 15th July 2010

As a result of four successful appearences at previous 'Summer Breeze' festivals The Juju Men have been invited to play at this year's festival on Thursday, 15th July, starting around 7.30pm. This an unmissable event. Not only will there be live music from The Juju Men, but also a variety of street entertainers will be performing and as a climax there will be a spectacular display of fireworks to wind up the evening.

GROVE TAVERN BEER FESTIVAL 18th July 2010

Don't miss the Grove Tavern Beer Festival on Sunday, July 18th. Live music from The Juju Men from 5pm to 7pm. You won't be disappointed.

BLUESMAN CHARLIE RETURNS FROM SPAIN June 2010

After a successful winter season spent working in the South of Spain, Bluesman Charlie, originally from Aberdeen, returns to the UK South Coast, where is currently seeking gigs or a position as a lead guitarist in a band. Check out his superb recorded music and live performance videos at MySpace. I guarantee you will be impressed by his unique style of playing blues guitar and by his soulful vocal delivery. For sure, this man is the business.

ON THE BEACH AT BOSCOMBE June 2010

New venue, right beside the beach at Boscombe, featuring live music on Wednesday nights - Overstrand - Urban Reef.

JUJU-MANIA HITS LULWORTH COVE 16th May 2010

As a result of a highly successful first gig at the Lulworth Cove Inn Bournemouth old skool R'n'B band, The Juju Men have been given a series of Sunday night bookings at the venue during the summer. The first of these is on 20th June. Well worth making the evening trip to this spectacular location. We understand that Dave, the landlord, is planning to feature live bands every Sunday night throughout the summer and maybe beyond. So what are you waiting for?

THE WEEKEND STARTS HERE 21st May 2010

Firebird hit the Spyglass & Kettle with a bang on Friday night - excellent band - very versatile - played all the right songs - went down a storm. The atmosphere in the pub was vibrant, to say the least. The highly varied throng of punters were certainly appreciative of Firebird's music, some even brave enough to venture on to the raised dancefloor and strut their stuff, or burn rubber, as the case may be. I very much look forward to Firebird's next appearence at this super clifftop venue. Watch this space, or to put it another way, regularly visit this webpage, to check out when this next appearence will take place.

LAZY SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN SOUTHBOURNE Spring 2010

Another new live music venue has sprung up from nowhere in Southbourne -

RESOUNDING SUCCESS 19th March 2010

Thanks to everyone that came to the Verena & The Totals gig at the Fairmile last night. Despite torrential rain there was a great turn-out. Friends of Verena, Total Recall fans from the Grange, and many, many more. Thanks to you all. Everybody agreed that the debut gig was a resounding success. Only complaint was that the completely carpetted floor made dancing a little like hard work. Let's face it, to burn rubber on the dancefloor, you really do need a dancefloor.

Whatever, Verena's edgy vocals in Lulu's 'Shout', were white hot !!!

VERENA SAVES THE DAY March 2010

Verena saves the day for Total Recall. What am I on about? Well, this is what I'm on about.

Highly popular britpop/60's band, Total Recall, kind of collapsed in a heap at the end of last year due to the disappearence of main man and singer, Ted. Due to health problems and general disillusion with the state of the planet, Ted finally decided to call it a day singing-wise. The three remaining members of the band, Larry, Mick & Roj, thought the band was doomed. As Jim Morrison once said, 'the future's uncertain and the end is always near'. But in fact this turned out not to be the case. Verena, renowned for her utterly 'on-fire' performances with Dakota and The Dark Horses came to the rescue. So Total Recall, now renamed Verena & The Totals, rises out of its own ashes, argueably stronger than ever. To confirm this for yourself, please come, with all your family and friends to see Verena & The Totals spring into action at the Fairmile, Christchurch on Friday, 19th March 2010.

To locate The Fairmile, click here to view map.

See you on the 19th.

THE GRANGE DISAPPEARS WITHOUT TRACE March 2010

Long standing music venue, the Grange, on Southbourne Overcliff, is to close within the next few weeks. It will never re-open again because the site is to be sold for redevelopment. So more than likely it will be replaced by yet another block of unaffordable flats. Clifftop location, panoramic sea views, location, location, location. Familiar story really.

DRIVE AWAY THE DARK March 2010

New song just release from highly individual local alternative band, Peachy Jane. The song is called 'Drive Away The Dark'. Highly recommended.
Visit Peachy Jane website to listen to this song and others, and to check out gig-guide and info about the band.
