A Few Words from the Webmaster

Hi, my name is Roger. I'm the creator and webmaster of this site. Unusually, I am not trying to sell anything. Think of this site as a free and independent online advice centre.

I believe I am well qualified to offer advice on the subject of renting accommodation in the U.K. Since moving away from the family home as a teenager I guess I've just about done it all. I've rented and shared rooms, bedsits, studios, flats, apartments and houses. And more recently I have become a property owner of both a flat and a house. I have rented the house out to groups of University students while I was myself working abroad. And when my personal situation changed I lived in the house myself and let out rooms. In other words I took on the role of a resident landlord. In very recent times I have acquired a flat which I currently rent to a worker from overseas. So, I am able to view the rental situation from both angles, as a tenant, and as a landlord.

I have made a few mistakes myself at the beginning, when I lacked knowledge and experience. But I have learned from these mistakes and I won't be making those mistakes again. I hope that by pointing out the pitfalls and dilemmas that I have encountered myself, I will ease the renting process for you, the site visitors. So, now I'll wind up by wishing you good luck and happy renting.
